Review & Acceptable Use Policy

Reviews only work if they are genuine, fair and lawful. What you can and can't post, how an FBO can respond, and how we handle reports.

1. Our aim: trusted, first-hand intelligence

WhatFBO exists to give pilots and operators an honest picture of FBOs. That only works if reviews reflect real experiences and are free from manipulation. This policy applies to all Content — reviews, ratings, photos, replies and profile information.

2. Who can post a review

Review only FBOs you've genuinely used. A review must be based on your own first-hand experience of the FBO, normally within the last 12 months. One review per visit/experience; don't post duplicate or bulk reviews.

3. Review guidelines

Good reviews are honest, specific and relevant. Please:

  • describe your own experience and keep it factual where you state facts;
  • make clear what is opinion;
  • focus on the service, facilities and handling — things other pilots and operators care about; and
  • be civil, even when critical.

4. Prohibited content

The following are not allowed and may be removed:

  • False or misleading statements, or reviews of experiences that didn't happen.
  • Defamatory content — untrue statements presented as fact that harm an FBO's reputation.
  • Fake, incentivised or manipulated reviews — including reviews you were paid or rewarded to post, or posted to game rankings.
  • Conflicts of interest — reviewing your own FBO, an employer's, or a competitor's.
  • Abusive, threatening, harassing, discriminatory or obscene material.
  • Illegal content, or content that infringes intellectual-property or other rights.
  • Personal data of identifiable individuals (e.g. naming junior staff, contact details) beyond what's necessary and fair.
  • Confidential or safety-sensitive information that shouldn't be public.
  • Spam, advertising or off-topic content.

5. No manipulation of reviews or rankings

Reviews and ratings must never be gamed. FBOs and their representatives must not post, solicit, incentivise or coordinate fake reviews — positive about themselves or negative about competitors. Attempting to manipulate rankings (which follow the order: Sponsored, then highest pilot-rated, then verified, then everyone else) may result in removal of content, loss of Verified status, or account suspension. Paid Sponsored placement is clearly labelled and never disguised as a review.

6. FBO right of reply

FBOs can respond, but not silence genuine feedback. A claimed FBO may publicly reply to reviews about it and may flag content it believes breaches this policy. FBOs cannot have genuine, policy-compliant reviews removed simply because they are unfavourable.

7. Reporting content

Anyone can report content that breaches this policy. Use the "report" function on the review, or email fly@whatfbo.com with the review link and the reason. To help us act on potentially defamatory content, please include:

  • the specific words complained of;
  • why you say they are inaccurate or unlawful; and
  • any evidence (e.g. proof the reviewer was never a customer).

8. How we moderate (notice and action)

We review reports and act proportionately.

  1. We acknowledge valid reports and assess them against this policy.
  2. We may temporarily hide content while we investigate.
  3. We may contact the reviewer for verification or a right of reply.
  4. We then keep, edit (format only), or remove the content, and tell the reporter the outcome where appropriate.

We aim to respond to reports within 5 working days. We don't pre-screen every review, but we act on valid notices.

9. Defamation and unlawful-content complaints

We take reputational and legal complaints seriously. Where content is alleged to be defamatory or otherwise unlawful, we operate a notice-and-takedown process consistent with UK law including, where applicable, the Defamation Act 2013 operators-of-websites process and intermediary protections. We may remove or restrict content pending resolution and may pass on a complaint to the poster.

10. Consequences of breaching this policy

Breaches can lead to removal or loss of access. Depending on severity we may remove content, issue a warning, suspend or terminate accounts, withdraw Verified status, or report unlawful activity to the authorities.

11. Changes

We'll keep this policy current and post changes here with a new date.
