Country overview

Azerbaijan faces a substantially elevated security environment driven by the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict, which has introduced direct military threat vectors into Azerbaijani territory, most acutely in the Nakhchivan exclave.

ISKP-linked terrorism targeting diplomatic and religious sites in Baku remains an active and thwarted-but-persistent threat, with Azerbaijani security services disrupting multiple plots in the recent period.

The southern border with Iran carries a U.S. State Department Level 4 Do Not Travel designation, and the broader country is rated Level 3 Reconsider Travel.
